I'm more interested in hearing from you than talking about myself, but let me give you an idea of who I am:
I grew up in Maryland, received my Bachelor's Degree from Hampton University, Master's Degree in International Business from the University of Maryland, and Doctorate with a focus on Public Policy and Social Change from Union Institute and University. Having lived in other parts of the country, I never forget how grateful I am to call Monterey home.
My professional life has centered around education and business, specifically helping students succeed in college. To work toward that goal, I founded and served for 16 years as Founder and Executive Director of the nonprofit, The Color of Education. For the past five years, I have worked at California State University Monterey Bay currently as the Director of Pre-College and Early Outreach Support Programs.
I am a tenacious problem-solver; a compassionate listener and communicator, a collaborator, and an organizer. All these qualities translate directly to Monterey's City Council work, balancing the needs of residents, visitors, and businesspeople, protecting what's great about our city and improving for the future.
My priorities are:
- Providing appropriate affordable housing
- Ensuring affordable water
- Including all segments of our population in city government
My husband and I have two adult sons and one granddaughter.
I look forward to meeting you. Great things are possible when we all work together.
